SO WHY DO WE NEED DONATIONS?
BECAUSE VOLUNTEERS COVER MOST OF THEIR OWN EXPENSES
Bat Rescue Inc. is run by volunteers who not only commit hours of time but also their own funds to provide this highly specialised and essential community service.
Whilst some Grant monies are available, as with all Charity Organisations we rely on you, the members of the public, to also help support us.
FUEL COSTS
Rescues take time, expertise and a lot of petrol attending to all manner of incidents throughout the Sunshine Coast. Our members cover thousands of kilometres each year performing our core activities.
Many trips are incurred travelling to local specialised vets and especially the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.
And not forgetting trips to transfer babies and injured bats to different carers with the necessary equipment, time, expertise and ability to care for our rescued bats.
FOOD COSTS
During birthing season (October-December) in particular, Bat Rescue members rear many orphaned or injured Flying-fox babies including premature babies (yes, tiny premmies!).
It can cost our volunteer carers more than $100 for each baby for rehydration fluids, specialised milk formula, high protein supplement and fruit.
Baby bats can be in care for months until able to be released (usually around late Jan-Feb).
EQUIPMENT COSTS
Our work includes a multitude of running costs including equipment. This can be rescue equipment such as ladders and nets, PPE and clothing as well as carry baskets for individual rescues.
Then we need small cages for rehabilitation purposes and larger flight aviaries for pre-creche juveniles, along with medications and medical equipment for sick or injured bats.
Our baby bats also need tea towels, ‘momma’ rolls (for our babies to cling to to mimic their ‘momma’ bat) and small laundry airers (for baby bats to learn how to hang) as well as towels for the floor once self-toileting!
The list is endless (and not much different to raising a human baby)!
So all donations, be they monetary or actual items of equipment, are highly valued and always put to good use.
Without you and them, we cannot run our core business of rescue, rehabilitation and eventual successful release of these wonderful creatures.
Bat Rescue Inc. would like to give a shout out to all our Donors and Sponsors.
We wish you a big THANK YOU for all your support in the past, present and future!
