QUEENSLAND
Bat Conservation & Rescue Queensland Inc. (BCRQ)
- A registered not-for-profit volunteer organisation striving to help people understand the importance of all bat species. They provide a prompt and humane rescue service, raising orphans and rehabilitating injured bats. BCRQ’s Rescue Hotline service covers the Greater Brisbane area. This takes in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands and Pine Rivers.
Bats QLD (Flying Foxes & Microbats Inc.
- A volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation. BATS QLD rescue, rehabilitate and release Flying Foxes and Microbats across South East Queensland. They cover the Gold Coast to Brisbane area).
Tolga Bat Hospital (Far-North QLD)
- The largest bat rehabilitation facility in Australia. TBH specialises in the Spectacled Flying-fox. It’s Visitor Centre has an Advanced EcoTourism status with EcoTourism Australia. And its well worth a visit!
Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland
- Is committed to an ecologically sustainable future for people and wildlife. The organisation aims to preserve QLD’s flora and fauna. This is by educating the community and encouraging rational land use with proper planning of development. Above all, including the sustainable management and use of the natural environment.
RSCPA Queensland
- Is a non-government, community-based charity dedicated to protecting the welfare of all animals. More than 40,000 animals depend on the RSPCA every year. And the RSPCA depends on community support and donations to continue their lifesaving work.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
- Featuring more than 1,400 native Australian animals in natural bushland and rainforest surroundings. The Sanctuary is dedicated to wildlife conservation and welfare. It provides education programs, research projects and a Community Wildlife Hospital. In addition, the Hospital treats more than 4,000 animals each year, including bats.

- Promotes conservation and study of bats through the advancement of scientific knowledge.
Adelaide Bat Care
- Provides excellent information about the wonderful insectivorous bats found in Adelaide, SA. It promotes bats by sharing knowledge and raising awareness of these little creatures. This is to ensure their future survival.
Fauna Rescue of SA Inc.
- With a small group of 10 keen individuals in 1988, Fauna Rescue SA now boasts a membership of over 400 Wildlife Volunteers. Rescuing wildlife all over SA, they even have specific Rescue Hotlines for koalas, ducklings AND bats!
Fly By Night
- A licensed DELWP Wildlife Shelter in Melbourne. They rescue and rehabilitate microbats and Flying-foxes, especially the vulnerable Grey-headed Flying-fox. The latter is endemic to the south-eastern forests of Australia. But unfortunately this species has suffered a massive population decline in recent years.
Shoalhaven Bat Clinic & Sanctuary
- The Shoalhaven Bat Clinic houses several hundred microbats as well as Flying-foxes rescued in the Shoalhaven area of NSW. A purposeful built facility operating under the licence of Wildlife Rescue South Coast Inc.
Sydney Bats
- A Sydney north-shore based organisation. Otherwise known as the Ku-ring-gai Bat Conservation Society (KBCS). Sydney Bats protect and conserve a Flying-fox maternity camp in the Ku-ring-gai Reserve.

- This group supply information and action for the conservation of bats all over Australia.
WIRES
- Rescuing and caring for wildlife in NSW for almost 35 years. It is the largest wildlife rescue organisation in Australia. With over 3,000 volunteers and 28 local branches. They operate a dedicated Rescue Office 24/7, 365 days a year. WIRES receives around 170,000 calls annually. They provide rescue advice and assistance for over 100,000 native animals per annum, including bats.
INTERNATIONAL
Merlin Tuttle’s Bat Conservation (USA)
- Merlin Devere Tuttle is an American ecologist, conservationist, writer and wildlife photographer. He has studied bats for over 60 years. Specialising in bat ecology, behaviour, and conservation. , he is personally credited with protecting the Austin Congress Avenue Bridge bat colony from extermination.
Bat Conservation International (USA)
- Founded by Merlin Tuttle, BCI is based in Austin, Texas. It is devoted to conservation, education and research initiatives involving bats and their ecosystems. A leading conservation organisation with over 14,000 members in 70 countries. BCI’s website is comprehensive and very informative.
Bat World Sanctuary Inc. (USA)
- A volunteer rescue, rehabilitation and education organisation in San Diego County. Working to ensure the survival of bats in Southern California.
Bat Conservations Trust (UK)
- The Bat Conservation Trust supports local bat groups across the UK. With over 6000 members, they work on a range of projects with volunteers, scientists, industry and government both locally and nationally.
